National Student Pride comms director, leading a student and graduate team
I took on this voluntary role after graduating to put to use my student years of LGBT activism with my media degree. However, during my time with National Student Pride I have grown from a volunteer press officer to a mentor to a whole media team
Building the National Student Pride media coverage from the LGBT media to coverage from the BBC, ITV, London Live, The Telegraph, Guardian, Independent, The Mirror, Closer and The Express – amongst many others.
As well as managing National Student Pride’s media sponsors Attitude Magazine, Gay Star News, Gaydio and QX Magazine, I grew partnerships with gay dating sites including HER and Jack’D before adding the national media partner Huff Post UK to our supporters.
I reorganized our media strategy to be content-driven, organizing social action media campaigns to combine the student’s activism with national reach. I directed and oversaw the production of a series of editorial videos based on the themes of our festival each year including coming out bisexuality and body confidence.
National Student Pride’s media has grown exponentially during my time with the team. In my role as a graduate member of the team, I mentored the media volunteers whilst:
– Coordinating and producing the main stage live stream, a multi-camera TV show broadcasted by Huff Post UK
– Directing and producing editorial video content and launching our podcast #QueerAF
– Overseeing all media partnerships, press, and marketing campaigns
– Strategy for growing our now highly engaged social media audience
