Whilst at the University of Westminster’s Students’ Union I revitalized the online arm of the Student Union’s communications by curating content for the website and social media. I began by completely rebuilding an out of date website to a brand new responsive and sticky menu design which at time of publishing was ahead of trend.
Achievements whilst at the UWSU include launching a successful Snapchat account, being the first Student Union to do a BuzzFeed quiz, having higher engagement scores than the top three unions as scored in the the national student survey and having on average 107% more followers than competitor Student Unions.
I was heavily involved in the wider communications strategy that encompassed working closely with the radio station and newspaper, helping to introduce a student editor. During my time I took on many of the roles of the communication manager, of which was left empty for the majority of my time at the union.
I also produced press releases and reports for the university to prove the worth of the unions work. One news story about the union’s lottery grant to tackle mental health appeared on the second page of the Evening Standard.
One of the prominent campaigns I ran, was the launch of Student Union and Sports mascots the UWSU Dragons. To introduce Students to London ahead of the freshers period, considering the number of international students that attend Westminster, ‘Pepper’ and ‘Westy’ went on a tour around London’s top sites, a campaign which grew our Instagram followers.
